Robert Bole is the Director of Global Strategy, managing the Office of Digital and Design Innovation, the Office of Strategy and Development, the Office of Research and Assessment, the Office of Performance Review, and the Office of Policy. As head of the Global Strategy division he oversees the formation and execution of BBG’s global growth and development strategy encompassing its television, radio, digital, and mobile platforms in serving an audience of 215 million in over 100 markets in 63 different languages.
Prior to this role he served as Director of Innovation where he led the agency’s use of technology to improve storytelling, news delivery and crisis response. He directed the agency’s digital strategy and worked with journalists to apply innovation to editorial and media products to grow audiences on video, audio, social and mobile platforms. In this role he established the first innovation practice at the BBG and lead that office to win three prestigious international news and design awards.
Before coming to the BBG in 2011, Bole served as the vice president of Digital Media Strategies at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting where he helped lead the creation of a unified digital distribution platform across television, radio and mobile content. He also created and executed a strategy to improve public media’s use of social media as a means of engaging citizens in journalism, civic dialogue and education. Prior to that, Bole worked for the One Economy Corporation, a global non-profit organization that leveraged the power of technology in under-served communities around the world.
Bole received a B.A. in Economics from George Washington University and a master’s in City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a frequent speaker at technology and media events such as SXSW, FedScoop, CES, and Tech@State and was an Executive in Residence at Wharton. He has led teams to such successes as a Webby Business Award in 2003 and an Online News Association Award in 2012.
