BBG networks provided audiences with special programming in commemoration of International Human Rights Day which came on December 10th. The day marks the anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s 1948 adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Human Rights Day on Alhurra TV and Radio Sawa

The Middle East Broadcasting Networks (MBN) provided its Arabic-speaking audience with special programming for Human Rights Day on Dec. 10th. Alhurra interviewed Egyptian women from different backgrounds and discussed the Egyptian constitution’s impact on the rights of women. It aired a report on high profile soccer players who go to Qatar to play the sport, but are denied the ability to leave the country once their contract with the Qatari team ends. Eye on Democracy dedicated a segment of the Dec. 6th episode to explore human rights violations during 2013 in the Arab world.

Lady Liberty Spotlights RFE/RL’s Women Journalists

To mark the U.N. observance of Human Rights Day on December 10, RFE/RL announces the launch of Lady Liberty, a webpage dedicated to women in journalism.

Lady Liberty recognizes the contributions of women journalists from RFE/RL as well as other media in our target region, illuminating/highlighting/underscoring their reporting, the issues they confront, and the political, societal and cultural landscapes in which they work. It is a resource for and about them and a medium to promote their work.
