RFA covers China’s crackdown on religion

As a part of its continuing coverage on China’s increasing religious crackdown, Radio Free Asia spoke with the family of a Christian pastor sentenced to 12 years in prison. Zhang Shaojie was charged with “fraud” and “gathering a crowd to disrupt public order,” a move sparking concerns that the government is broadening its campaign against large religious groups.

RFA wins at New York Festivals Radio Awards

Radio Free Asia (RFA) last night won a bronze medal in the category of Best Human Interest Story at the 2014 New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards for RFA’s Cantonese Service exposé on Chinese “birth tourism,” “Born in the USA: Instant Citizenship in Saipan.” In addition, RFA’s Uyghur, Korean, Lao, and Cantonese services had stories and features among this year’s finalists.
