Alhurra Television had the most extensive coverage of the White House Summit on Countering Violent Extremism of any Arabic-language television network. The three days of coverage included live broadcasting with simultaneous translation of remarks made by President Barack Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry, National Security Advisor Susan Rice, and Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson. Alhurra also carried the panel discussion “Understanding Violent Extremism Today” live in its entirety.
Mwamoyo Hamza, the chief of the VOA Swahili Service and Joan Mower, the head of Development and Training at the BBG, spoke today at the USC Annenberg Center on Communication Policy and Leadership-Public Diplomacy Council event on U.S. international broadcasting in Africa. They joined fellow panelist Ron Nixon, who covers broadcasting for the New York Times.
