In Azerbaijan, BBG Governor Ashe Awards RFE Literary Prize, Discusses Local Media Environment

At a ceremony Wednesday in Baku, Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) Member Victor H. Ashe presented Musa Efendi with the Oxu Zali (“Reading Room”) literature award. Efendi, 20, was recognized for his short story, “Taken Away,” which bested over 200 other submissions in a writing competition judged by the online audience of RFE’s Azerbaijani Service, Radio Azadliq. The ceremony was attended by more than 200 writers, journalists, and members of Azerbaijani civil society, including a member of parliament.

Al Youm Anchors Meet with Egyptians for the Chance to Appear on Program

Alhurra Television’s Al Youm’s co-anchors met with thousands of fans in Cairo’s Tivoli Dome during their two-week campaign asking viewers to ‘tell us your story.’ Viewers were given the opportunity to meet anchors Amr Khalil and Engy Anwar and give a brief interview about why they should appear on Al Youm.  Some of the participants with the most compelling narratives will have their story selected to be broadcast to millions of viewers on Al Youm. Stories chosen to appear on Al Youm will start airing the week of June 26th.
