Voice of America won Outstanding Digital Feature Project for American Muslim Portraits, at the 2017 Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association (CAPBA) awards. The series profiles a diverse group of U.S. Muslims and was created by Carolyn Presutti, Bezhan Hamdard, Mike Burke, and Jeff Swicord.
Television Martí’s documentary, “Alas de Libertad” (Wings of Freedom), on the story of the Brigade 2506 Air Force division that carried out a surprise attack on three airports in Cuba during the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion, was honored with a 2017 Suncoast Regional Emmy Award from The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Alhurra’s weekly feature program Almajalla was named the Best Arts and Culture program at the annual AIB Awards ceremony. The award-winning episode featured a profile of Syrian artist Mohamed Hafez, who told his story of creating art that represents his feeling towards his home country.
RFE/RL’s Iranian Service, Radio Farda, journalist Azadeh Asadi produced the 25-minute radio program “The Horses Shot Along With Me” which is one of five entries shortlisted in the category “Audio: Human Interest” by the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) for the AIBs 2017.
Saniya Toiken, of the Khazak Service, was recognized by the International Women’s Media Award (IWMF) for her work which dates back to 2007.
