Alhurra reaches out to Arab youth through two new interactive programs
Springfield, VA. — Alhurra Television encourages Arab audiences to join the discussion on-air with two new dynamic and interactive shows launching this week, DardechTAG and You and Nablia. Both shows target the Arab youth and provide them an opportunity to have their voices heard and be a part of a dialogue about topics that are important to them.
DardechTAG brings together Alhurra’s digital and broadcast properties for an enlightening and engaging discussion regarding topics such as unemployment among the youth, breach of privacy and identity theft. The conversation about the selected topic begins online through DardechTAG’s Facebook page and Twitter accounts, as well as interviews with ordinary Arabs from across the region. The discussion continues on-air during Alhurra’s DardechTAG, Saturdays at 16:00 (all times GMT). The program will encourage viewers to interact with an expert guest and ask questions via social media. DardechTAG is hosted by Nour Eldein Al Yousef and Alanoud Badr and starts Saturday, May 9th.
Al Youm host Nabila Kilani brings her extensive television and radio experience and lively personality to You and Nabila. The new program allows viewers to interact personally with Nabila and her guests via phone and skype about the topics of interest to the Arab youth. Each episode of the hour-long program will focus on two to three issues that viewers are talking about. The first show will look at violence against women, using graffiti to express opinions and extreme plastic surgery, providing a wide array of issues. You and Nabila will air Mondays at 21:00, starting on May 11th.
“We are very excited about DardeshTAG and You and Nabila, because they represent a new type of program on Alhurra and allowing Arab youth to directly interact with each other and with guests. The youth in the Middle East needs an opportunity, using new media and traditional platforms, to have conversations about topics that will shape their future,” stated Brian Conniff, President of Middle East Broadcasting Networks (MBN). MBN manages and oversees Alhurra. “We hope to do more of this type of programming encouraging dialogue between people, both in-studio and the viewers.”
Alhurra is operated by the non-profit corporation MBN and is financed by the U.S. Government through a grant from the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), an independent federal agency. The BBG serves oversight and as a firewall to protect the professional independence and integrity of the broadcasters.
