BBG Launches “Behind-the-Scenes” Blog

The word Notebook over a photo of a man using a video cameraNotebook, a new blog, features an insider look at U.S. international broadcasting.  Notebook includes first-person interviews on current and historic events across the Broadcasting Board of Governors’ enterprise.

“Drawing from historic and contemporary events, we want to showcase first-person accounts of interesting happenings across international broadcasting,” said Anastasia Kolobrodova of BBG Public Affairs and editor of the blog. “It is a great way to connect with broadcasting on a personal level and we hope readers will also share their own stories.”

Notebook offers a glimpse behind the scenes of U.S. international broadcasting. The blog features stories and photos from the field and the newsroom, profiles of individuals working at the agency, and looks back in international broadcasting history.  Through Notebook, the BBG hopes to offer a community online scrapbook to share stories about U.S. international media.

Posts so far have included a celebration of World Radio Day, an interview with VOA founding father Walter Roberts, a look at filming VOA Learning English programs, and more. Coming soon are more photos, interviews, and video profiles of individuals across Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia, the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (Radio / TV Marti), the Middle East Broadcasting Networks (Alhurra and Radio Sawa), and the International Broadcasting Bureau. The blog will also give an inside view of BBG’s global news gathering operation, and focus on the innovations, trends, and related developments inside BBG’s broadcasting network.
