Alhurra and Radio Sawa to Offer Extensive Coverage of Mubarak Trial

On Wednesday, August 3rd, Alhurra and Radio Sawa will provide in-depth and extensive coverage of the trial of former Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak.  In addition to live reports from correspondents in Egypt and across the Middle East, both networks are encouraging viewers to send in their thoughts and reactions regarding the trial through Facebook and YouTube to incorporate viewpoints from Egyptians and Arabic-speaking audiences throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

Alhurra’s live coverage begins at 6:00 a.m. (all times GMT) and will be broadcast continuously until 11:00 a.m.  With expert guests, analysts and live reports from the United States and from the symbol of Egyptian uprising, Tahrir Square, in Cairo, the coverage will examine the charges against Mubarak which include ordering his forces to shoot anti-government demonstrators during the country’s uprising, abuse of office and embezzling funds.

Alhurra’s flagship program Al Youm will broadcast a series of reports looking at key issues during the trial including the charge of conspiracy to kill protesters during the uprising which led to Mubarak’s overthrow in February; reactions from victims’ families whose loved ones were killed during the uprising; reactions from Egyptian and Arab academics from Iraq, Tunisia, Morocco, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates; the fairness of the charges against Mubarak and the ascension of Mubarak and his sons to power.

Additionally, Alhurra’s daily talk show, Free Hour, will be dedicated to Mubarak’s trial on Tuesday, August 2nd and Wednesday, August 3rd.  The program will discuss the ramifications of Mubarak’s trial on the Egyptian revolution and whether the trial will meet the youths’ demands.   Free Hour airs daily at 8:00 p.m.  

Radio Sawa will broadcast hourly informative updates about the trial in expanded newscasts and live coverage from Egypt.  Radio Sawa’s team of correspondents will produce a series of reports highlighting the impact of Mubarak’s trial on political life in Egypt and how Egyptian media covers the trial.  Radio Sawa’s journalists will also explore the reactions of people from all walks of life to Mubarak’s trail.  Sawa Magazine, Radio Sawa’s 30-minute news magazine program will also provide a comprehensive examination of the trial.  Sawa Magazine airs daily at 3:15 a.m.
