Avian and Pandemic Influenza Workshop, Almaty
Kazakhstan — November 2-3, 2010
Eighteen journalists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan gathered for a regional workshop, Avian and Pandemic Influenza and Infectious Disease: Getting the Story.
Representatives from local and international health organizations, including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan, made presentations on influenza and infectious diseases.
They touched on the current situation and risks of influenza at both the regional and international level and discussed other infectious diseases, particularly those present in the Central Asian region. The training was funded through an interagency agreement with the State Department’s Bureau of Oceans, Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES).
