More than a dozen Nigerian women journalists, primarily from the north, participated in a health journalism workshop that focused on covering issues including HIV/AIDS, polio, tuberculosis, leprosy, malaria and other epidemics.
Journalists also visited a clinic and a market to produce stories for broadcast. The workshop was held in conjunction with the opening of the VOA Kano Reporting Center.
Trainers included Hajia Bilkisu Yusuf, President, Federation of Muslim Women Association, Nigeria; Akin Jimoh, Program Director for the Development Communications Network and Cece Fadope, Country Coordinator, Internews. Also present, Sunday Dare, VOA’s Hausa Service Chief.
