Radio Farda Broadcasts Special Programs for Revolution Anniversary

March 03, 2010

The most important event in February for the Radio Farda team was the 31st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran on February 11.On this day the regime used everything at its disposal to mobilize pro-government rallies as a show of strength in support for the regime and to outmaneuver protesters, effectively stopping them from staging their own rallies. The regime succeeded to some extent; however, there were sporadic protests in Tehran and other major cities. Radio Farda broadcast special programs from 9:30 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. In the more than 50 features, packages, interviews and reports that they aired, Farda’s journalists made sure to go beyond the capital city of Tehran in order to present as complete a picture as possible of the day’s events and the mood of the country. Radio Farda’s website set a new record on the day, with more than 200,000 visitors and 733,000 page views—almost twice the number of visitors on an ordinary day.
