Ukrainian Service Delivers Rich, Multimedia Coverage of Presidential Election
March 03, 2010
Throughout January and February, the Ukrainian Service used audio, video, photos, Twitter, and even cartoons to provide its audiences with in-depth, multifaceted coverage of the presidential campaign and election. During the entire campaign, which culminated in February 7 with the second round of voting, the Service’s website featured a special election page that was updated around the clock. Video features of note included a look at whether the candidates were really all that different and a profile of two volunteer campaign workers, one for Viktor Yanukovych and one for Yulia Tymoshenko, as they went door to door. One campaign issue that the Service devoted particular attention to was Yanukovych’s promise to make Russian the second state language. The Service conducted a web poll on the question that elicited over 10,000 responses. The Service also used its Twitter page to keep its many followers abreast of the latest developments in the campaign.
