The reach of RFE/RL’s Moldova service expanded in October with the addition of a new unpaid affiliate in Chisinau, as well as the addition of four new frequencies for longtime partner Vocea Basarabiei. These additions effectively give the Moldova Service nationwide coverage.
RFE/RL’s Turkmen service created a Facebook page where news, articles, videos and pictures are updated on daily basis. Other RFE/ RL services on Facebook include Radio Farda and the Azerbaijani, Armenian, Tajik, and Kyrgyz services. The Russian, Belarusian, and Kazakh services have pages on LiveJournal, which is the Russianlanguage equivalent of Facebook.
VOA Urdu is providing hourly fiveminute bulletins and breaking news texts on the Zong mobile network in Pakistan. VOA also has new online partners in China, where Web portal YesHJ.com signed an agreement to use Special English content on their Web site, and Cambodia, where U.S.-based AngkorOne.com signed an agreement to use VOA and RFA Khmer content online.
New VOA affiliates include NewsX, an English news satellite and cable channel in New Delhi India, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GTV), KenTVRO and BayTV in Africa, and Digital Music Radio and MGM Buenos Aires in Latin America. Thailand’s National Institute for Research and Development for the Blind has asked VOA’s Thai Service to participate in a special telephone service the institute offers the blind. The service enables blind people to receive over the phone information that appears in newspapers and other media outlets. The institute receives an average of 30,000 calls per month.
