Threats to Journalists: Rwanda

  • VOA stringer Lucie Umukundwa was forced into hiding and subsequently into exile in August 2006. Within hours of Umukundwa having asked about allegations of harassment of independent journalists at a monthly news conference by Rwandan President Paul Kagame, her brother was severely beaten by unknown assailants. During the attack they made disparaging references to his sister.
