Threats to Journalists: Nigeria

  • Hausa Editor, Ibrahim Ahmed and stringer, Abdulwahab Mohammed  were attacked by some armed robbers by the Abuja International airport in October 2008. The armed robbers shot their tire, dragged the three occupants of the car out and stole all their belongings including Ibrahim’s US passport. The Divisional Police Officer  in Gwagwalada town later came to their rescue after the attack.
  • VOA TV producer Mary Arobaga was harassed and detained three separate times during a 2004 trip to the Niger Delta region, where she and a videographer were filming a documentary on oil. They had their lives threatened by “police” and others.
