- London correspondent Sonja Pace and Washington TV reporter Jeff Swicord were previewing a story on the French presidential elections, when a group of thugs beat up Swicord with clubs, grabbed his camera and put him in the hospital for two days. Two other television crews were beat up on the same day. The Paris suburbs, largely populated by immigrants from North and Sub-Sahara Africa, have become notorious because of anti-government riots in recent years.
