- The government of Ethiopia suspended the licenses of two VOA Amharic stringers on April 23, 2009, claiming that the reporting of the Amharic service was biased and opposed to the Meles Zenawi administration. The licenses were returned April 27, following a series of telephone protests by members of the Foreign Correspondents Association in Addis.
