- In July of 2007 government officials threatened a citizen who had been interviewed by and independent journalist. The interview was aired by Radio Marti. Idalberta Rodriguez, who lives in the City of Manzanillo, eastern Cuba, denounced that the government was forcing her to leave her home. She spoke again to the independent press, and her comments were carried by Radio Marti.
- On April 17, 2007 dissident leader Marta Beatriz Roque received a phone call from State Security telling her to stop collaborating with Radio Marti.
- On October 31, 2006 independent journalist Ahmed Rodriguez was expelled from his hometown of Antilla, because he allegedly misrepresented via Radio Marti the social and political situation in the town. Rodriguez was 21 years old at the time.
- Cuban secret police detained independent journalist Juan Carlos Linares in October of 2006 after he had participated in a teleconference with Radio Marti officials. The teleconference was held in Havana at the US Interest Section.
- In June of2006 state security threatened activist Alexander Santos with a beating if he continued to cooperate with Radio Marti.
- In September 2005 approximately 60 members of Cuba’s paramilitary police threatened independent journalist Guillermo Farinas Hernandez after he had participated in a protest to call for the release of imprisoned dissidents. He was told that he would pay the consequences if he reported the incident via Radio Marti. He immediately called the station and did precisely that.
- In 2003 independent journalist Normando Hernandez Gonzalez was arrested for reporting for the Internet and Radio Marti, accused of endangering state security. Sentenced to 25 years in prison, Hernández remains in jail. He has received numerous awards, including an award for valor given by the Pen Club. His mother Blanca Gonzalez was one of the guests at this year’s State of the Union address.
- Independent journalist Ricardo Gonzalez Alfonso was arrested in 2003 for activities against State Security and making false statements in Radio Marti endangering State Security. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison and remains in jail. A prisoner of conscience he is ill and has been repeatedly confined to punishment cells.
- In 2003 independent journalist Alfredo Felipe Fuentes was detained by State Security and sentenced to 26 years in prison accused of promoting subversion because his reports were aired in Radio Marti.
- In 1997 independent journalist Bernardo Arevalo Padron was sentenced to six years in prison after telling Radio Marti that Cuban head of State Fidel Castro and Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage had misled the population in a number of issues.
