BBG Extends Reach in Turkey
The Broadcasting Board of Governors has taken steps to increase its reach in Turkey with a new agreement with Turkey’s Mynet News and Entertainment Portal and an expanded agreement with Turkey Radio and Television New Channel (TGRT News).
“These agreements are a positive move forward for both Voice of America and the people of Turkey,” said Bruce Sherman, BBG’s Director of Strategy and Development. “Now more than ever, citizens in Turkey need access to trusted news sources. With these agreements in place, they’ll be able to access VOA content on the platforms they prefer.”
Mynet News and Entertainment Portal is one of Turkey’s largest, with 40 million visitors a month. Under the new agreement, VOA’s Turkish Service will provide video, audio, and online news and analysis on current events and social issues affecting both Turkey and the United States.
TGRT NewsTV is a 24-hour nationwide network reaching approximately 25 million regular viewers. The expanded agreement with TGRT extends VOA’s live programming from four to five days per week. The live broadcasts from Washington include U.S. news, information on Turkish-American relations and international developments.
