The Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) hosted the 2013 Conference of International Broadcasters’ Audience Research Services (CIBAR) November 3-6 in Washington, D.C. The conference seeks to promote a deeper understanding among international broadcasters of the practices and value of audience research.
“CIBAR represents — in the research domain — the types of close collaboration and joint initiatives that BBG increasingly seeks with trusted international partners,” said BBG Governor Michael Meehan.
Among the topics covered at the conference were the importance of research to guide and evaluate strategy, the role of digital analytics data to assess performance, developments in methodology, and the cultural value and impact of public service international broadcasters.
“CIBAR showcases the best practices and industry-standard methodologies in audience and market research, which are critical to BBG as we sharpen our ability to discern the impact of our work around the world,” said the BBG’s Director of Strategy and Development, Bruce Sherman.
Speakers and attendees included individuals across the BBG’s research departments, research directors from international broadcasters including BBC, Deutsche Welle, Radio France International, and Radio Netherlands Worldwide, as well as many of the broadcasters’ key research partners. The meeting was held at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Washington offices and in cooperation with Radio Free Asia.
