Cuban blogger and free speech advocate Yoani Sánchez met with BBG officials amid a Washington visit that included top U.S. lawmakers and diplomats. During the trip, Sánchez emphasized the need to support independent journalists and human rights activists on the island. She is on an 80-day journey to raise awareness of Cuban issues in the U.S. Europe and Latin America.
During her stay in Washington, Sánchez was interviewed by the Voice of America. She expressed her esteem for the broadcaster and also noted that in many provinces in Cuba people know her not because of her blog, but know her voice from Radio Marti.
