OPM has provided the initial BBG results from the 2012 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey. The agency had a lower participation rate in 2012 (53% – or 829 of 1,565 eligible employees – down from 1,089 out of 1,626 eligible employees in 2011, or a 67% return rate) and lower satisfaction in the categories of leadership and talent management.
This initial OPM data release gives only the agency-wide responses for each question. OPM is expected to release additional data for the BBG and the rest of the government that provides useful context and detail in mid-November.
In the meantime, comparing our results with those from last year, we see progress in some areas and some chronic issues that will take persistence and collaborative efforts to address.
Results show a positive shift in some important areas (work/life balance, employee assistance, results-oriented performance culture). Survey results indicate that employees believe their feedback matters, and they give high marks when it comes to employees’ commitment to their work.
Of the 77 questions in common from the 2010 to the 2011 surveys, BBG scores declined by five or more points on eight questions.
These results will be instrumental as the agency works in close collaboration with employees, including through workshops facilitated by the Partnership for Public Service, to address these issues. Both will inform and shape an action plan that is slated to be announced in January 2013 and will be designed to make BBG a better place to work.
