Rep. Ruppersberger Speaks to Alhurra TV about Libya, War on Terror and Syria
Representative C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) spoke with Alhurra TV’s Congressional Correspondent Rana Abtar regarding missing journalist and Maryland native Matthew VanDyke who disappeared on March 12, 2011. He stated that the family knows VanDyke was in Libya working as a journalist, but no one has heard from him or seen him. He went on to say that he is putting a resolution in Congress to call attention to VanDyke in an attempt to get more information about the fate of the missing journalist.
When asked about the military action in Libya, Ruppersberger stated that the U.S. should not have “boots on the ground” in Libya. He went on to say, “the United States should not be sheriff for every country in the world. We have our hands full in Afghanistan and what we are doing in Iraq at this point; [as well as] fighting the war on terror globally.”
Ruppersberger stated that the U.S. should not pull troops out of Afghanistan following the death of Osama bin Laden. He said that there are still many terrorists out there and the U.S. should work closely with Afghanistan and Pakistan; as well as countries around the globe to fight terrorism. In regards to the U.S. Administration’s stance on Syria the congressman said, “the president is doing is the right thing as far as sanctions are concerned.”
