Maryjean Buhler Named Chief Financial Officer for the Broadcasting Board of Governors

Maryjean Buhler joined the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on January 4, 2010.

The Broadcasting Board of Governors, encompassing all U.S. civilian international broadcasting, is an independent federal agency that broadcasts in 60 languages to key audiences around the world and acts as an example of a free and professional press. Its broadcasters, including Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia, Radio and TV Marti, Alhurra TV and Radio Sawa, reach a weekly audience of more than 171 million people via radio, TV, the Internet, and other new media.

As CFO, Buhler is responsible for the direction of all budgeting, financial, and strategic management operations for the BBG, and serves as the point of contact and liaison officer on budget and financial matters with the Office of Management and Budget, Treasury Department, the Government Accountability Office, and other government agencies.

Buhler is an accomplished financial executive with over 20 years of experience in leading and re-engineering multi-million dollar federal and local government budgets, financial management systems, acquisition processes, and accounting and financial analysis efforts. Most recently, Buhler served as the Deputy Chief Financial Officer in the Executive Office of the President which includes the White House, Office of the Vice President, Office of Management and Budget and the National Security Council. She managed and directed the financial and reporting activities of the EOP’s approximately $1 billion budget and led staff activities in budget, accounting operations, financial systems, travel management and accounts payable functions.

Buhler holds an M.B.A. from California Lutheran University and a B.S. from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Internal Auditor, a Certified Management Accountant and a Certified Government Financial Manager.

The Broadcasting Board of Governors is an independent federal agency, supervising all U.S. government-supported, civilian international broadcasting, whose mission is to promote freedom and democracy and to enhance understanding through multimedia communication of accurate, objective, and balanced news, information, and other programming about America and the world to audiences overseas.
